Adventure Week
In the vein of NaNoWriMo, 24hour comic book day, and countless other time-limited creativity projects, Dice, Food, Lodging is proud to present Adventure Week!
Participants have one week to write and produce a complete story arc for an RPG of your choice. At its completion the adventure should be ready to hand off and be playable by any gaming group. Production values count, especially since part of the goal is is to make these adventures available to others. One aspect of Adventure Week that differs from other similar creative endeavors is that this event encourages team-ups! Artists, Writers, Graphic Designers, anyone you can find to group with and create a more exciting product.
AW will take place during the last week of June (6/27-7/3). For you north-easterners, this is the week prior to DexCon.
Participants may enter as many adventures as they want — each entry must adhere to one of the following formats.
- Long Form: 3 session campaign (12 hours of play).
- One Shot: 1 session story (4 hours of play).
- Adventure Week Con Track: 3x 1 hour stories on a theme.
AW will take place during the last week of June (6/27/2010 – 7/3/2010). For you north-easterners, this is the week prior to DexCon.
Entries shall be judged on the following criteria:
- Completeness (finish it up!)
- Story (creativity and game worthiness)
- Production Values (art, et al)
- Adherence to time allotted to format (creativity within constraints)
Part of the goal of this is to finish and βwinβ a la NaNoWriMo, but I say judged, because there are prizes in it for the participants.
Entries may be written according to the following format, or however suits your vision. Just make sure it is easy to read, and includes everything that is needed to be successful.
- Abstract — a one paragraph description of your adventure. Make sure it hints at the players’ roles but doesn’t spoil anything. Above all, make it exciting!
- Story outline — Include a briefing for the GM on how the story is generally expected to play out, assuming the PCs do everything according to plan (yea right).
- Story details — Detail significant plot points, introduce NPCs. Write the story for other people to play!
- Appendixes — use this section for stat blocks, hooks for further adventure, maps, and anything else you want to include that is supplemental to the core adventure. Remember, you only have one week to finish!
Adventure Week Submission Guidelines
Email a PDF of your completed adventure to adventureweek@dicefoodlodging.com. An entry will be considered valid if it is:
- timestamped as sent by 12:01am July 4;
- the file is not botched (if the file is botched, I’ll let you know and maintain the original timestamp);
- the names/contact information of all the contributors are included.
Submission will be judged by a panel of RPG industry professionals, including:
Darren Watts of Hero Games
Daniel Solis – Creator of βHappy Birthday Robotβ
And three others on whom I am awaiting confirmation.
Keep in mind, all submissions will be included in the final collection. The judging is designed to be for feedback and prizes only.
All submitted entries shall be subject to the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 License; all submissions remain the sole copyright of their authors.
